About smartseal

The smartseal system has been developed by a group of British scientists and a GDP, led by Drs Don Highgate and Jon Lloyd, who identified that hydrophilic polymers could be used to seal irregular shaped spaces.

The contact lens industry, in their drive to improve comfort, was implemental in the development of hydrophilic materials, leading to the introduction of high water content soft lenses.

The smartseal R&D team worked out that by varying the formulation and processing conditions, hydrophilic polymers could be designed to provide materials with a wide range of properties.
