The hydrophilic polymer coating on the point is designed to swell laterally with no change in length, thereby self-sealing the canal.
It is flexible and so fits into highly curved canals. It’s radiopaque to provide confirmation the point is in situ and give a conventional x-ray appearance. Once hydrated, the point softens, so further treatment of the tooth for post preparation is simple and straightforward.
propoints adapt to the shape of the canal and once a seal is created the swelling stops, so no chance of fractures. The pictures below show how two points are placed into a very oval canal. As the points hydrate they expand laterally and conform to the shape of the canal.

Please note the images above show our discontinued smartpoints which had a radiolucient polymer coating. The coating on propoint is white in colour and fully radio-opaque.
The paste is also designed to swell through the addition of the ground polymer to a resin paste. The paste is capable of swelling in any direction. The polymer can also swell at a later date to fill any voids that might develop.
